Aer Lingus is the national airline of Ireland. Based in Dublin, it operates over 30 aircraft serving Europe, the United States and recently Dubai, United Arab Emirates. The airline is 28% owned by the Irish government; it was floated on the Dublin and London Stock Exchanges on 2 October 2006, following prior government approval (the government previously owned 85% of the airline). Aer Lingus is a member of the oneworld Alliance, though has announced its intention to leave on 1 April 2007. The company employs 4,000 people and has revenue of €906.8 million as of 2004. Its slogan is Low Fares, Way Better.
Annually, the airline has a revenue of €1,150 million, carries about 6.9 million passengers and 41,000 tonnes of cargo, and employs 5,650 employees.
Aer Lingus Commuter, an associate carrier, is a wholly owned division of the airline which began flying on 1 May 1983. It operates on thinner routes in the Irish Republic and to the United Kingdom, using BAe 146-300s and Fokker 50s.
Destination Cities
This Irish flag-carrier maintains a domestic and European route system, together with transatlantic services to Boston, Chicago, New York and Los Angeles. European destinations include Amsterdam, Belfast, Birmingham, Bristol, Brussels, Copenhagen, Dusseldorf, Edinburgh, Frankfurt, Glasgow, Jersey, Leeds/Bradford, London (Heathrow Airport and Gatwick Airport), Madrid, Manchester, Milan, Munich, Newcastle, Paris, Rome, Stockholm and Zurich. Aer Lingus also flies to seven domestic points.
