Air Slovakia BWJ was established in 1993, when the group of independent people, who had been working in aviation business, having necessary skills and knowledge, but especially the enthusiasm about enterprise and serve to passengers, joined together. Under the name Air Slovakia BWJ the airline operated since 1995. Till that time the company's name was Air Terrex Slovakia and after the separation with Czech subject Air Terrex it operates as a pure Slovak company. The main aim was clear: to fill the gap in Slovak aviation after the "departure" of CSA, to enterprise in charter transportation and with its assistance to create economic background also for the development of reasonable regular flights. The first regular flight (Bratislava - Tel Aviv) was opened in January 1994. The performance in charter business has increased from year to year. In 1993 were approximately 8 000 passengers carried, a year later 25 000, in 1995 more than 70 000, in 1996 about 100 000 and in total up 400 000 travelers. Today we have built the destinations in Greece, Spain, France, Bulgaria, Tunis, Turkey and occasionally we realize also other requirements of the travel agencies. Step by step, further regular flights were opened. Namely, to Kuwait and to Larnaca. A mild decline of results which the company noticed in last period was caused by less tourism demand and by entry of other airlines (domestic and also foreign) to Slovak market. But Air Slovakia has responded to expected changes in time. The previous two planes of type Boeing 727, we replaced for qualitative better type Boeing 737 200. We in Air Slovakia, put an effort to keep up with the trend of surrounding countries, mainly in states of EU, where the operation regulations are tighten. The development of aircraft technique has also influence on improvement of services for passengers, what after time is expected to have positive effect on the economics of the company. In this respect, Air Slovakia within the quality upgrade introduced world-wide reservation system AMADEUS in 1999. So we could state, that we, in Air Slovakia do not base on momentary success, but we evaluate the development of aviation, and define the right direction, which after the time will show as a profit, or at least not lossy. Our credo is: to belong among the best airlines in Slovakia in its category.
