Cze Cha Edit page

From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle

Cze Cha, translated literally from Hokkien/Teochew, means "cook and fry". In essence, it refers to a style of meal. Basically, you get to pick and choose from an array of dishes to eat with rice or noodles. However, this is different from Economical Rice or Nasi Padang in that you cannot just point to what you want! The food will noly be cooked after you have placed your orders. Most of the outlets selling Cze Cha will have menus, some also have pictures.

Hawker Stalls which offer Cze Cha are normally found in coffee shops and it is quite normal to find large families descending on these places during diner time for a meal. But a smaller party of diners will be just at home as these outlets have one-dish dishes such as Fried Rice and Fried Noodles.

Such stalls also usually offer a variety of other dishes ranging from seafood, vegetables, meat, eggs to soups to complement the Cze Cha. Some of the common and more popular dishes that you will find at Cze Cha stalls are Prawn Paste Chicken, Hotplate Tofu, Sambal Kangkong, Prawn in Bean Curd Skin, Emperor Ribs, Sweet and Sour Pork, Sweet and Sour Fish, Steamed Fish or Fried Fish, as well as Sliced Fish with Vegetables or Sliced Beef with Vegetables. It is not uncommon to see many people who also drop by in their cars or on foot and order takeaways.
