Singapore Pubbing

Singapore Pubbing - despite relatively high prices for alcohol, Singapore's bar scene is incredibly lively and, since the licensing laws were substantially relaxed, some even say it's overtaken Bangkok as Southeast Asia's nightlife capital.

It's not all S$15 beers either. Hit the bars early to take advantage of the happy hours, which typically stretch from around 5pm to 9pm (unless stated otherwise). At these times, you'll generally get two of most drinks for the price of one and cheaper "housepours", which are the bar's selections of spirits or wine. On Wednesday or Thursday night, some bars offer cheaper, and sometimes free, drinks to women, presumably on the assumption that drunk women attract paying men.
Singapore's new liberal licensing laws mean many bars and clubs stay open until the early hours, some right through to breakfast. Round Midnight, Insomnia and Bed Room Bar are all popular with boozers who don't like to go home until the birds are twittering.
This all comes at a price, though. If you don't want to end the evening broke and don't mind plastic tables and fluorescent lights, you can drink bottles of Tiger Beer for as little as S$5 at hawker centres and coffee shops. In fact, sitting outdoors on a balmy night with a few large bottles and a few plates of food may just be one of the abiding memories you take away from Singapore, rather than blowing S$200 in a club.
