Eating at Chinatown
From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle

Eating at Chinatown - Chinatown's streets are a gourmet's paradise. Traditional Teochew Restaurants and Dim Sum houses such as Yum Cha and Da Dong have operated in this area for years. Webbed chicken feet, braised goose meat, marinated raw fish and yam wrapped in lotus leaves are just some of the delicacies available from these restaurants. Along Smith Street, the higher floors of Chinatown Complex house food stalls that offer a tempting array of noodle dishes and cooked food.
Walk out of Chinatown Complex onto Smith Street - now closed to traffic and turned into a pedestrian mall. This is a chance to relieve the hustle and bustle of 1960s street hawking - with 21st century sanitation standards. A lively mix of 18 hawker stalls ply a wealth of local culinary staples (open Mon-Fri, 6.00pm to Midnight; Sat, Sun and Public Holidays, 11.00am to Midnight).

Tea Houses
You will also find traditional tea houses in Chinatown, which goes along with a recent quest by local Chinese to discover their roots. Chinese films, literature and music have become more popular in recent years, and Confucian values are enjoying something of a renaissance. Moreover, the health properties of drinking Chinese Tea - believed to be a powerful antioxidant - have converted many.
