Katong Antique House
From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle
|
Katong Antique House is where artefacts are displayed by the owner, Peter Wee, in his two-storey shophouse, to show a typically decorated Peranakan home.
Here you can view a large collection of antiques including beautifully beaded slippers, wedding costumes and traditional ceramics and furniture. Note the marble-inlaid rosewood furniture, beaded slippers, and gold accessories with which Straits Chinese women adorned their hair and Kebaya blouses. Typical spices used by the Straits Chinese in their cooking such as Belachan (prawn paste) and curry powder are on sale. Call in advance and you can arrange to have tea (S$10) or a meal (from S$23) including Peranakan delicacies.
