Night Safari
From Singapore Hotels & Singapore Lifestyle
|
Night Safari, next door but completely separate from the Singapore Zoo, is internationally acclaimed as what many people count as the highlight of their trip to Singapore.
With over 900 nocturnal animals of 132 species (including tigers, lions and leopards) inhabiting 40 hectares of dense secondary forest, the Night Safari is the world's first wildlife park with a night view. Night Safari has been the winner of Singapore Tourism Awards' Leisure Attraction of the Year six times since its inauguration in 1994.
In the darkness the moats and other barriers seem to melt away and it actually looks like these creatures could walk over and take a bite out of you. The atmosphere is heightened even further by the herds of strolling antelope, which often pass within inches of the electric trams that are available to take you around. For an even creepier experience, walk through the enclosed Mangrove Walk, where bats flap around your head and dangle from trees a few feet above your head.
You are asked not to use a flash on your camera since they disturb the animals and annoy fellow visitors.

The setting is bathed in shadowy half-light, so the creatures are largely oblivious to a visitor's presence.

Wildlife Conservation Efforts
Besides being a wildlife park, the Night Safari is also renowned for its commitment to conservation. It breeds rare and endangered species like the Malayan tiger, clouded leopard, Malayan tapir and the Indian rhino.
